Datça Peninsula which is world wide well-known turism center like  Bodrum, Marmaris, Gökova, Dalyan and Fethiye has a long history. Previously Datça was under the hegemony of  Carians  and after 1100 B.C under the hegemony of Dorians.Dorians established six cities under the Hexapolis Union and picked out Knidos , located in Datça Peninsula , as  center  for themselves. Dorians wanted to make the peninsula as an island by making a canal in Balıkaşıran for defying to Persian attacks but they gave up because they tought that they fell victim to God’s wrath. After the Persians , Datça Peninsula was under the hegemony of Athenians , Spartans , Romans , and in 1282 was under the hegemony of Menteş Bey from Germians. Datça became a part of the Ottoman Empire in 1390 by Yıldırım Beyazıt and in the era of Sultan Reşad  the name of Datça renamed as Reşadiye. In Turkish Republic era , in 1928, Datça became a town of Muğla , and the first central established in Reşadiye. Then in 1947 it was moved to its current centre Iskele Mahallesi. Well-known mathematician and philosopher  Eudoxus , sculptor  Praxiteles  who  made the best  sculpted  naked  Aphrodithe Statue ,  Skopas , Bryaxis , Sostrates  , architect  of Alexandria Light House  lived in Knidos historical site. Pedestal  of Aphrodite Statue , 8000 people capacity theatre ,  sundial , (shadow clock) , and Demeter  Temple aresome of the  ruins of Knidos historical site where 80.000 people lived.  In the town  also in Hızırşah Village  ruin of a mosque leftover  from Seljuks  and the ruins of ceramic ateliers , in Reşadiye Mahallesi Mehmet Ali Bey Hall , Reşadiye Mosque , and  in Emecik Village some temple ruins  are some of the ruins which come our times  from history. Datça is in the Aegean region as geographic region. Datça is located in a peninsula in Agean Sea which is between  Gökova Bay in southwest part of Anatolia and the Hisarönü  Gulf . Datça has a mountainous  and  rough  terrain. Mountains  run paralel to Agean Sea in the east-west direction. The highest points in Datça Peninsula are Bozdağ (1174) , Kalecik Mountain (881) , Karadağ (786) , Emecik Mountain (704) , Yarık Mountain (615). 65.9% of the land is forest  area, 18.3% of the land is sparse bush  and  and rocky and  only 15.8% of the land is the agricultural area.  Kızlan Plain , Burgaz Plain , Peşadiye Plain , Karaköy , Palamutbükü , and Mesudiye are  plains of the town. Surface area of Datça is 446 km2  and it has 235km coast line which decorated with 52 small and large bays. In Balıkaşıran where is the boarder of Marmaris and Datça (64km far away from Datça) the narrowest place is 1km while the widest place is 17km. With a 70km main road you reach to Datça from Marmaris.In summer seasons you reach to Datça in 2 hours from Bodrum with the both side ferryboat services. The transport to Datça is provided with domestic and international airway from Milas-Bodrum and Dalaman Airports.  Datca, has a typical Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry, winters are mild and rainy. Peninsula surrounded by sea on three sides and a cool north wind blowing in from the sea cancel out broiling hot weather. Datça where humidity is 58% on average , is sunny 300 days in a year.
